INTRODUÇÃO

Shadow of the Beast is a remake of the 8 bit 2D platformer of the same name in 1989. The game is a 3D side-scroller with small platforming and action elements. The game looks good on the PS4 and has some enjoyable combat. It is quite short but it designed for multiple playthroughs and obtaining high scores. It has some multiplayer elements but only for leaderboards, gifting items and devouring for increased score but thankfully this is not needed for the Platinum.

PASSO A PASSO

Step 1: Complete the game on Normal mode, while trying to go for a silver rank on every level plus getting the collectibles/unlocking secret encounters.

During this step you should try and aim for getting good scores on encounters to gain elixirs and find collectibles (refer to Collector). If you die, then remember to only use innocent souls as there is no penalty to this and you will need to save up your elixirs for Beast Mode later on.

Any encounter which has a little yellow symbol inside the portal at the bottom right hand corner where the enemy count is, try and get at least a gold medal as this will unlock secret encounters that you may need to backtrack for. If you don’t get these then don’t worry because any levels can be re-tried to get them.

In this step you will earn:
Shadow of the Beast I
Shadow of the Beast II
I know who did this…
Master of Ether
The story retold
Welcome
As the mist clears…
You emerge from darkness…
The shadows are growing longer…
Behind the heavy oak doors…
Sunlight has given way…
Congratulations

Step 2: Complete the game on Beast Mode.

This isn’t as hard as it appears as you don’t need to get a good rank on any encounters/can skip optional ones all together. This is where you will use up your elixirs if you die so if you are finding it tough don’t be afraid to go back to an earlier level on beginner or normal to farm elixirs by achieving Platinum ranks.

In this step you will earn:
Shadow of the Beast III

Step 3: Clean up and watch all the endings.

By this point you should know your way around the game and probably have most of the miscellaneous trophies. However if you haven’t, then view the endings/credits through the main menu and enter levels through level select to complete any trophies you may have missed.

In this step you will earn:
Untouchable
Seeker of Wisdom
Origins
Collector
Channelled Rage
Fully loaded
Perfect killing machine
Counter productive
Black belt
Knows the ropes
The Art of War

All is lost  (Potentially Glitched)
Cleansed…
A new day dawns…
Hope for the future?

Aarbron reborn

Potential “All is Lost” trophy Glitch: There is a potential glitch where the timeline “Destiny Fulfilled” won’t show as unlocked even after attempting all 52 encounters. If you are having a problem with this or any secret encounters not registering as completed on the map, then make sure that you do them all under one difficulty and that you get a medal in each one (even if it’s a bronze). Now complete the final boss again on any difficulty and select an ending which you haven’t seen the cutscene for “in person” (as you may have already viewed it via the timeline but not completed the choice properly in the ending cutscene).

GUIA DE TROFÉUS

 Aarbron reborn
Collect all other trophies.

Once you earn all other trophies, then you will no longer need to live in the shadow of this Platinum.

 10 pints?
Complete a level on Beast difficulty without resurrecting.

To earn this trophy you need to beat the any level of your choice on Beast difficulty without dying. If you do die, then you will have to restart the chapter. The easiest way to do this is to load up the first level after beating the game once already (as you will be stronger, with more abilities like the stun, which is vital so you should upgrade that first) then work your through the fights while avoiding any optional secrete ones as they are unnecessary.

We also advise having the following 3 talismans equipped:

  • Shield of Leander (or Iron Skin if you don’t feel comfortable with using the Shield/or don’t feel you have enough blood during encounters)
  • Blood Wrath
  • Vitality

Having these 3 will make it easier to counter if you become trapped, will give you more maximum HP, plus allow you to absorb health by killing enemies. With all this the first chapter should be rather simple to complete without dying on Beast mode.

 Shadow of the Beast I
Complete all levels.

Complete all 7 chapters on Beginner. Do note that the Difficulty trophies stack.

A tip for the 6th level if you are struggling:

Make sure to change your talismans to:-

Blood Rain (as the enemies don’t give blood so regenerating outside of combat is key)
Iron Skin
Vitality

Also remember that despite the enemies being ghosts, you can still use the + attack to gain health back or + to give you extra blood.

 Shadow of the Beast II
Complete all levels on at least Normal difficulty.

Complete all 7 chapters on Normal. Do note that the Difficulty trophies stack.

 Shadow of the Beast III
Complete all levels on Beast difficulty.

Complete all 7 chapters on Beast. Do note that the Difficulty trophies stack.

The main differences with Beast mode is you have less max health compared to the other difficulties, enemies do two points of damage and attack quicker and you can’t use innocent souls to resurrect mid level, only elixirs will work. Without these resurrection items if you die you will have to start the level from the beginning. It isn’t too difficult especially if you are fully upgraded but here are some tips just in case:

  • Equip the 3 talismans as suggested for the 10 pints? trophy.
  • If you have any friends playing and they see a shadow of you in a game, get them to bestow a gift instead of devouring you as this gives you an elixir.
  • If you are ever low on blood and you see a shadow of another player, devour it to give you some blood back.
  • Devouring players also gives you a shadow stone which gives you an npc shadow to help in any encounter. Save these for when you are struggling
  • A handy grinding method to get elixirs is to replay the first level and earn a platinum rank on the early encounters as this nets you an elixir. You can then quit out mid level and keep what you have collected.
  • Use the parasite attack( ) as this can give you three health points back.
  • Don’t worry about your score or doing any of the secret encounters.
  • Use Wrath of Aarbron () only when stuck as it is handy when overwhelmed.

 I know who did this…
Discover all the hidden art in the special credits sequence in one run.

To be able to unlock the mini game in the first place, you will need to get a silver ranking on every level but difficulty doesn’t matter. Also, you may need to have unlocked all other time line endings, which you can see your progress by looking at your timeline above the final level although this is debated. Once you do this whenever you enter the credits, either via beating the final boss or through the Credits option in the Wisdom of Shadows on the main menu, you will enter the mini game. This involves destroying all the ships and then a final “boss” of the credits. This can be tricky as the ships shoot, are pretty accurate and which will one shot kill you, along with a fireball from the “boss” in the final section symbolising you have run out of time if you haven’t killed him within about 10 seconds.

You will know if you have completed this mini game correctly if there are no question marks on any of the artwork images in the main menu. This is because the final pieces of artwork are unlocked by defeating the ships/boss during the extra credit sequence.

The best tactic is to keep moving/loop around firing and to learn the order the ships come towards the screen so you can be prepared. For the final “boss” section you need to aim for the glowing orb he is holding and make sure you look out for the dark smoke coming off it, as this shows you are hitting it. If you do fail you can retry via the Credits option in the Wisdom of Shadows on the main menu.

Here is a video walkthrough of the special credits:

The hardest part of this trophy is getting silver rank on each level but the best way to do this is to play on Normal (not Beginner like you would expect) and if you feel like you won’t get a good score on an encounter, you should let yourself die and restart the encounter from the beginning using an innocent soul. The reason for not doing Beginner is because dying restarts you mid battle meaning you can’t retry an encounter. There is no penalty to score for using innocent souls.

As you only need silver it shouldn’t be too hard to do, as long as you use  and  special moves to maximise points when your combo is high, don’t get hit a lot and perform well while in Rage Mode you should get a silver. Also, Rage Mode can be a good way to end a fight/if you are worried about getting hit because if timed right then it gives you invincibility and dispatches enemies fast regardless of shield and other enemy features.

 Untouchable
Achieve platinum rank on any level.

In order to get a platinum rank you need to complete all the levels encounters, without getting hit plus getting a platinum score (which you can see in the top right hand corner when you do a special combo move). This can be done on any difficulty and can still be tricky. However it is made simple by just doing the final boss on beginner. The final level is just the boss and nothing else so therefore score doesn’t matter so all you need to focus on is not getting hit. The boss’s attack are quite slow on beginner and you do more damage to him so it shouldn’t take many tries. We advise aiming for the part of the body of the boss where the magic is coming from/is slightly glowing green as these are his weak points. Once you beat the boss without being hit the trophy will pop.

Alternatively you can do the first level on normal (making sure to take off talismans for vitality and defence since you can’t get hit anyway so these are useless) and use the trick of dying on an encounter and restarting that fight from the beginning using innocent souls, if you don’t feel you are going to get the score or you have been hit.

Advice about getting a good point score:

  • At the start of fight make sure to get lots of normal (or PERFECT hits) to build up your combo.
  • Then for the last few enemies (watch the counter at the bottom right as this will show the amount of enemies left) when your combo is high, make sure to use + to finish them off.
  • More complex enemies give more points (for example the gold female knights) so if you can use the special points move (+) on them.
  • Finally of course don’t get hit, as 1 hit will reduce your medal from a platinum to a gold!

 Seeker of Wisdom
Fully upgrade all of Aarbron’s combat skills.

To fully upgrade Aarbron’s combat skills, you need to earn large amount of mana points. You get mana points from killing enemies in levels. Killing enemies gets you a score and the total at the end of a level equates to how much mana you will get. If you want to boost this quickly, you can complete some easy encounters at the beginning of the first level then quit out as this keeps your mana.

You can upgrade your skills through the Combat section in the Wisdom of Shadows of the main menu. Upgrading shouldn’t take long and you will need to progress to at least the 5th level before you gain access to your final powers. However if you grind it out sooner/to maximise the amount of mana from any encounter then play on normal but if you are not happy with your score then die mid encounter, use a innocent soul and try again.

When you unlock all segments of Aarbron’s combat skills, you will get the trophy.

 Origins
Play the original game.

In order to get this you must first unlock the retro game. You do this by going to Visions section in the Wisdom of Shadows and spending 200,000 mana points on the retro game. Once you load it, the trophy will pop and you can exit the game.

 Master of Ether
Break all summon seals.

(Collectible)

Summon seals are seals you find on the ground in levels that you need to press  on, then mash  to unlock and they will give you talismans. Refer to Collector for an more in depth description.

 The story retold
Open all prophecy orbs.

(Collectible)

These are orbs you find in levels that will unlock a specific timeline for that level and you need to destroy them with the Wrath of Aarbron skill (). Refer to Collector for an more in depth description.

 Collector
Unlock all talismans and timelines.

(Collectible)

In order to unlock all talismans you effectively have to get all Summon Seals and then buy the talismans. Whereas for the timelines you will need to collect all the Orbs, complete all secret encounters and beat the game on Beast Mode. There are varying amounts of these collectibles with the last chapter, The Crystal Lava Fields, having no collectibles but still has to be completed to see all endings.

Once you unlock all Prophecy Orbs you will unlock all the multiple choice endings via the timeline after beating the boss for the first time. Although if you have already completed the boss once, you can access the timelines and see the endings straight from the level select menu. For this simply press up on the d-pad to view timelines at the Crystal Lava Fields. You can watch the endings and get their respective trophies there.

 Channelled Rage
Get a rage chain of 10 or greater.

A rage chain is when you activate Rage Mode and kill 10 enemies in a row without failing. You will need 3 full blood bars to use Rage Mode which is activated with  + . The longer you are in Rage Mode the quicker you need to be to chain to the next enemy. Any combat encounter with at least 10 enemies will suit but it can actually be done in the first level during the Rage Mode tutorial after the cutscene with the priests.

A tip for this is to pay attention to the yellow hue at the edges of the screen as that denotes that there are enemies spawning that side offscreen. This is useful so that you can press left or right in advance to the  QTEs, to make you more likely to succeed.

 Fully loaded
Equip 3 talismans.

Talismans are unlocked by breaking Summon Seals in level. You will then need to purchase them with mana points in the Talisman section in the Wisdom of Shadows. Once you purchase 3 load any level and it will give you the option to select talismans at the beginning with the D-pad. Once you equip 3 the trophy will pop.

 Perfect killing machine
Achieve 50 perfect kills.

A perfect kill is when you attack and hit an enemy right before they hit you, normally shown as a yellow flash on the enemies weapon. You will know you have gotten a perfect kill as a golden perfect will appear on the screen. I wouldn’t worry about this trophy as it will likely happen on your way to the platinum trophy. If you want to grind it, then load Beginner difficulty and play through to the Rage Mode tutorial after the priests as the slow-mo effect makes getting perfects very easy.

 Counter productive
Successfully perform 10 counters.

You counter an enemy when you either press  or  +  as they attack. The timing of this will take a while and the trophy may pop while playing but if not, load the first level on Beginner and it should be easy to tell when an enemy is about to attack.

 Black belt
Successfully perform all special moves.

In order to get this trophy you will need to unlock all moves by buying them with mana points in the Combat section of the Wisdom of Shadows. The moves can be done anywhere and do not have to be done in one encounter. Once you do them all the trophy will pop.

List of moves

+ (Domination) – Gives a high amount mana points and can increase if combo is high.
+ (Parasite) – Gives 1 to 3 points of health depending on upgrade level
+ (Rekindle Wrath) – Gives 1 Wrath of Aarbron bar.
+ (Martyrs’s Fire) – however, it costs one Health.
(Wrath of Aarbron) – Huge spikes that clear the area and refills the Blood Bars, if you kill any monsters.
+: Summons the Shadow Beasts to assist you in the encounters (ontained by devouring other players).

 Knows the ropes
Achieve an A rating for style on any level.

The style rating is based on the variety of moves you’ve used throughout the level and you can get hit/die. However to get this trophy all you need to use is 5/6 of each techniques throughout the level:

5x Wrath of Aarbrons
5x Counters
5x Blocks
5x Special moves
5x Throws
5x Stuns
5x Rage Chains

Therefore the easiest way to get this trophy is to load up the first level on normal so you can use the restarting trick if necessary. Simply use each of the techniques listed up to 5 times and you should be fine. Once you finish the level and get an “A”, then the trophy will pop.

 The Art of War
Achieve a combo of x15 or greater.

This can actually be quite tricky but the best way I found to do this is on the first level on normal so you can avail of the restart trick. The two secret encounters have enough enemies to get a 15x multiplier in them so once you unlock the either of the secret encounters (they have about 30 enemies each) kill as many enemies as you can before becoming overwhelmed to boost your multiplier (preferably with PERFECT hits and making use of  to get behind enemies and backstab them as these increase the combo quicker) blood and allowing you to activate Rage Mode for the last kills for the 15, as you can’t get hit in Rage Mode for you succeed with the QTEs.

Also remember that if you don’t think you will make 15x in an encounter, then let yourself die and use an innocent soul to retry.

 Stunning
Successfully use the Shield of Leander 10 times.

Once you unlock the required Summon Seal you can buy the Shield of Leander talisman in the Talismans section of the Wisdom of Shadows for 2,000,000 mana points. All you need to do is equip it at the start of any level using the D-pad and during combat tap in the direction of an enemy who is about to strike (while making sure you have blood). You will know you have done it successfully as a white flash/shield will pop up and the enemies will be stunned. Once you do it 10 times, then the trophy will pop.

 Reign of Blood
Watch the “Kill Maletoth” ending.

After beating the final boss there is another cutscene. During this scene you will have a choice if you have collected all the Prophecy Orbs, if not, this will be the standard ending. If you do have multiple choices then this ending is the  option. You can also view this ending in the timeline section by choosing “Reign of Blood” from the main menu above the Crystal Lava Fields.

 All is lost
Watch the “Beast’s Future” epilogue.

(Collectible)

This timeline can only be unlocked by getting all encounters in the game. This includes secret ones, which can be found by getting at least a gold medal on any combat sequence which is linked to a secret encounter. This is denoted by a little yellow symbol within the portal on the bottom right of the screen where the enemy counter is. There are 52 in total, see Collector trophy for locations.

Once you complete the Kill Maletoth ending once, go to the timeline section of the main menu above the Crystal Lava Lake Fields and select “Destiny fulfilled”. Watch it and the trophy will pop straight away.

Potential Glitch Note: There is a potential glitch with this timeline not showing as unlocked even after attempting all 52 encounters. If you are having a problem with this, or any secret encounters aren’t registering as completed on the map, then make sure that you do them all under one difficulty and that you get a medal in each one (even if its a bronze). Now complete the final boss again on any difficulty and select an ending which you haven’t seen the cutscene for “in person” (as you may have already viewed it via the timeline but not completed the choice properly in the ending cutscene). This should fix the issue as the game will now recognise the timelines correctly.

 Cleansed…
Watch the “Become Human” ending.

After beating the final boss there is another cutscene and during this scene you will have a choice if you have collected all the Prophecy Orbs. This ending is the  option. You can also view this ending in the timeline section of the main menu above the Crystal Lava Fields if you select “Escape from Exile”.

 A new day dawns…
Watch the “Spare Maletoth” ending.

After beating the final boss there is another cutscene and during this scene you will have a choice if you have collected all the Prophecy Orbs. This ending is the  option. You can also view this ending in the timeline section of the main menu above the Crystal Lava Fields if you select “Justice for All”.

 Hope for the future?
Watch the “Aarbron’s Future” epilogue.

Once you complete the Spare Maletoth ending, go to the timeline section in the main menu above the Crystal Lava Lake Fields and select “All is Lost?”. Watch this and the trophy will pop.

 Rekann
Unlock and watch the final epilogue.

In order to unlock this final epilogue called the “Shadow of the Beast” you need to unlock and view every other timeline and ending, plus beat the game on Beast Mode. To get the other timelines, you will need to collect all the Prophecy Orbs and complete all encounters including the secret encounters (refer to Collector trophy for more info). Once you do all this you this you can view the epilogue in the timeline section above the Crystal Lava Fields.
